PORTLAND – Oregon City had two players named to the 2010 Class 6A Girls Basketball State Tournament all-star teams.
Oregon City senior guard Taylor Ward was named to the first team, along with Jesuit senior Alyssa Martin, Jesuit junior Elizabeth Brenner, Southridge junior Allison Green, and South Eugene senior MacKenzie Kerins.
Oregon City senior wing Brittany Knighton was named to the state tournament’s second all-star unit, along with South Eugene junior Ellen Cook, McNary senior Megan Hingston, Franklin senior Shoni Schimmel, and Franklin junior Jude Schimmel.
Ward was also named the Quest Oregon City player of the game for the Pioneers’ first two tournament games, the 77-47 rout of McKay and the 55-47 loss to Southridge.
Ward went 17-for-33 from the field (.515) for Oregon City’s three state tournament games, hitting seven 3-pointers. She was the state tournament’s seventh highest scorer, averaging 13.7 points an outing.
Knighton scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and came up with three steals in the Pioneers’ 77-47 quarterfinal rout of McNary. She had nine points and 11 rebounds in the 55-47 semifinal loss to Southridge.
Oregon City senior point guard Taylor Belmont finished second for the tournament in assists, with 13 for three games. Belmont was also a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Oregon City senior post Alisa Griggs finished as the state tournament’s fourth-best percentage field goal shooter, finding the mark on 8-of-13 attempts (.615).
Oregon City’s team had the highest scoring average for the tournament, at 61.7 points a game. The Pioneers were also the state tournament’s top percentage shooting team, making 63-of-141 (.447) shots from the floor.
Oregon City junior guard Malcolm Paulston was one of the top five percentage shooters in the Class 6A Boys State Tournament, hitting 5-of-8 (.625) shots from the floor.
