OREGON CITY – There’s a new sport in Oregon City.
Two local businessmen and former collegiate rugby teammates, Keith Swensen and Joe Rowan, have begun a rugby program for high school-age boys who live in Oregon City.
They call it Oregon Pioneer Rugby Club. The program, for boys ages 14 to 19, is sanctioned by USA Rugby and Rugby Oregon.
Swensen and Rowan played rugby together at Oregon State University and have been active in Portland area men’s leagues. Rowan was an assistant coach at West Linn a year ago.
Oregon Pioneer Rugby Club practices started in mid-January, but Swensen and Rowan are looking for a few more boys to fill their roster. No experience is necessary. The registration deadline is Feb. 15.
Practices are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the local area.
For information, contact Rowan at 503-655-4445 or Swensen at 503-225-0081, or visit the website at www.rugbyoregon.com.
