MILWAUKIE – The Rex Putnam Kingsmen put it together in the second half of a Dec. 8 game with McMinnville, rallying from a 24-21 halftime deficit to a 45-39 victory in a preseason girls basketball game at Putnam.
After out-scoring Putnam 15-6 in the second period, the Grizzles scored only 15 points the rest of the way.
“We got after it [on defense] in the second half,” said Putnam coach Lisa Vetter-Serafin. “They did it as a team. I’m proud of the way they came together as a team. They showed a lot of heart.”
Junior Megan Malvick headed up the comeback effort, scoring a game-high 17 points and hitting 8-of-10 free throws in the final period, when she took the ball to the basket.
The win put the Kingsmen at 2-0 on the yet-young season. They return home next Tuesday, when they entertain Madison. They travel to Lake Oswego after Christmas for the Lake Oswego shootout.
