Accident closed busy southbound lanes for two hours

ADVERTISEMENTS

A 60-year-old Milwaukie woman was killed Friday night when she was struck by a van at about 8:20 p.m. while she tried to cross McLoughlin Boulevard near Meldrum Avenue in Gladstone.

Oregon State Police say Maria Isabel Cervantes-Gutierrez died from her injuries at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland. She apparently was trying to cross the highway where there was no crosswalk and was struck by a Chevrolet Astrovan driven by 24-year-old Nathan Sheets of Milwaukie.

Sheets stopped his van and remained at the scene until police and medical personnel arrived. He cooperated in the investigation.

No citations have been issued. The investigation is continuing.

McLoughlin’s southbound lanes were closed for about two hours while state troopers’ Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident.
