Oregon City voters again overwhelmingly rejected annexations on the east side of the city, slowing the process to develop two major projects and probably killing the likelihood of being home to the much-touted Green Economy Center.
The three annexations totaling 289 acres were turned down by between 15 and 20 percent, with the highest only reaching 42 percent approval.
Two annexations on the ballot were for the Park Place Concept Plan area south of Holcomb Boulevard, north of Redland Road and east of Highway 213. The city and majority landowner envision a primarily mixed-density residential area there, with two small town center-type areas that would have the more dense housing.
The whole area would include 1,459 new dwelling units, extensions of Holly Lane north and Swan Avenue south and various parks and other amenities.
One annexation, 3-332, was for 84 acres, and the other, 3-333, was for 91 acres.
The other annexation on the ballot was for 114 acres in the Beavercreek Concept Plan area, north of Old Acres Lane and east of Beavercreek Road at the site of the Oregon City Golf Course.
The city has planned a jobs campus for that site, with a mix of mostly office and industrial areas. It was also picked as the site for the proposed Green Economy Center, which would have created sustainable-minded businesses, schools and public entities to allow for greater collaboration.
